RESEARCH CENTRE FOR HEALTH PROMOTION (EKEPY) The Center is responsible for IMOP research co-ordination, in order to record the dimension of problems in Greece, detect people who are at risk for certain diseases and work on preventive methods. Therefore, the Center focuses on epidemiological surveys in the general population, as well as on preventive surveys in the community and it is not limited only in hospitals or health care units.Priority of this Center’s epidemiological surveys is to record the behavior of people with urological symptoms, their experience from health services’ use as well as the development of preventive models which focus on men and women, always in cooperation with the three other centers of IMOP.It is expected that the need for qualitative research activity will increase in the fore coming years because of the changes in demographic characteristics. In particular, the fact that in 2030 mean life expectancy will be about 80 years and the 25% of the population will be above 65, commands better understanding of urological diseases and of the factors that contribute to health and quality of life.In these terms, the RESEARCH CENTRE FOR HEALTH PROMOTION supports the realization of high quality research that is necessary for the investigation of urological diseases in the Greek population. The RESEARCH CENTRE FOR HEALTH PROMOTION considers that devotion to research will be proved an invaluable investment for the improvement of health and well being of people. EKEPY designs and develops research which targets at the improvement of patients’ quality of life. The Center supports the fact that scientific knowledge derives from continuous clinical research on patients, on any person who is in danger of being in this position, as well as on the general (healthy) population. For this reason, EKEPY designs and develops clinical as well as epidemiological research which broadens our knowledge on the factors that contribute to the appearance, prevention and treatment of urological diseases as well as the factors that enhance the preservation of health and well being.In addition, ΕΚΕΠΥ supports the fact that health is affected by organic, psychological, social and cultural factors.By these terms, the Center designs studies, which adopt the holistic model in health, and which adapt to the special needs and characteristics of the Greek population.The realization of these studies is based on a cross- interdisciplinary team consisting of biostatisticians, biologists, physicians (of several specialties), psychologists, sociologists and is in close cooperation with scientists from abroad. In every study, the RESEARCH CENTRE FOR HEALTH PROMOTION-ΕΚΕPΥ reassures the cooperation of the appropriate trained scientists, as well as the application of quantitative control methods, in order to produce valid results.EKEPY develops research which has as a goal social and personal intervention which will bring the best results for corporal, psychological and social well being of the general public.
