The European Society of Sexual Medicine (http://www.essm.org) was founded in 1995 at “Porto Carras” in Chalkidiki.

ESSM was established thanks to the initiative of a small group of European Urologists who were pioneers at that time in research for sexual function issues.  

The organization of the Founding Congress –that was actually the first European Conference on Sexual Medicine to take place in Europe- was undertaken by Professor of Urology D. Chatzichristou (current ISUD President and then President of the Congress) and Assistant Professor K. Hatzimouratidis (current ISUD Secretary and then Coordinator of the Scientific Committee).
